Reading My Spring Acrostic Poem.
The teacher read a book called 'The Dandelion Seed' by Joseph Anthony. Then we made our own picture of a dandelion seed blowing around. After that we wrote our Acrostic Poem about Spring. We wrote the word SPRING down the side of our page and we wrote some words about Spring. Mrs Kerr published our best work. We displayed it on the wall in Room 1. We read our poems to the teacher and she recorded it on the computer. Press the play button and you will hear my voice saying my awesome poem.
"I have got a lot, lot better at reading this year. I like to read some books about cheetahs and crocodiles and penguins. Mum says I am good at reading."

When I Grow Up ...
I wrote my story in my book. I checked with Mrs Kerr. She helped me import my photo into kidpix. I typed the words by myself. It took a long, long, long time. It's tricky to type the right letter. I decorated my photo so that it looks like me when I am grown up.
"I am learning to sound out words in my writing and to find the right word. Typing is hard because I forget to do capital letters and then my story doesn't look right. Sometimes I forget the full stops too. I am very happy with my picture because it looks the way I want it too."

I Read My Book and I Can Answer Some Questions.
At reading time we can read a book with Mrs Kerr and then we can look at the same book on the computer and we can do some activities with the letters and words. It's called P.M. Readers.
"I can read Baby Bear Climbs a Tree with the teacher. I can go on the laptop and play the games that match the book. I got 4 right and that makes me feel happy. Next time I can try a new one and it be harder for me."

I Used Shapes To Make A Picture Of My House.
I am learning about shapes like the circle, triangle, diamond, rectangle, square, hexagon, octagon, pentagon, cube and the trapezoid. Trapezoid is a cool word and a cool shape. I chose some shapes and I cut them out of coloured paper. I glued them onto my paper to make a picture of my house. We put them all together on the wall to make our Room 1 community.
"I used triangles, circles, squares and rectangles to make my house and my car and me. My car has green circle wheels. My pictures looks pretty."

I Can Publish My Best Writing.
Every day I write a story. I can choose my best story for publishing with Mrs Kerr. Usually my best story goes into my publishing book and I can illustrate it on Friday. Sometimes I write a big, amazing, beautiful, awesome story. This story is about a cold, cold day. I cut out shapes in some paper to make a snowflake. Now my story and my snowflake are up on the windows in Room 1. I have seen people reading my story. That makes me want to do the happy dance!
"It is easy to cut out the shapes for my snowflake. I like writing stories because I can draw my picture first and then I can write the words. I need to put full stops in my story so that I can have more sentences to read."

I Am At PMP.
I go to PMP (Perceptual Motor Programme) with Mrs Murray. She puts the music on and I do lots of activities. I dance, I hop, I jump, I slide and I freeze. Sometimes I use equipment and sometimes I do not. This is called the Dizzy Giddy. I have to move my body to spin the Dizzy Giddy around. It feels fast and dizzy. I love PMP because I can move my body around.

Our Community Library in Pakuranga.
I went to the Pakuranga Library on the bus. The library people read some books about Matariki. They did a little play and the sun got caught in a net and it was funny. After that we looked around the whole library. There were lots and lots and lots of books. Mrs Murray let us issue 3 books with her library card. I was happy!
When I came back to school I could make a necklace. First I coloured it in and then I cut it out. Mrs Kerr put a string through the hole and I put it around my neck and took it home.

I Am Learning About the Numbers 10 - 20.
Mrs Kerr tells us which number we are making. Today we are making 14. I can get 14 beans and put them on my whiteboard. Then I write the number 14. Next Mrs Kerr says to move some away. I have moved 4 away and there are 10 in the big group and 4 in the little group. I can write the number sentence 10 + 4 = 14.
"I like doing 14 because it's tricky to do 14. I am going to make 14 again with the beads on the string. First I will do orange beads and then I will do yellow beads."

My Mothers' Day Card.
First I did the writing inside the card to Mum. Next I decorated the whole card with the felt pens. Mrs Kerr put the glue on the handle and I had to shake and shake and shake the glitter on. At the end I put the first letter of my name. I put the letter 'A.' My card looks beautiful and my mum will be proud.

I Can Read Some Rhyming Words.
"This is 'he, me, we, see, she.' He is really hard to do because sometimes it has a capital H. They are called rhyming words because they have ees at the end and then they sound the same. Mum and Dad help me to learn my words at home. I am good at reading now."

I Can Publish My Story On Kidpix.
I write the story in my book. I go on kidpix on the laptop. I type my story. My teacher checks my story and sometimes fixes a little bit. Then I can draw my picture. The last job is to choose a background colour.
"It's hard to make the pictures because I make some mistakes. I have to push the 'undo guy' and that fixes my picture. The words are hard to find because they look different. I am clever because I did 2 different background colours. I am the only person who did 2 colours."

I Am Writing My Numbers Up To 10.
I am learning to write the numbers up to 10 and put them into the correct order, forwards and backwards.
"I can nearly write all of my numbers the right
way. I just need to remember about
number 4, 7 and 9 because sometimes I mix them up. I can write them fast."

I Can Use the Illustrations to Help Read the Words.
I am learning to use the pictures to help me to read the words in my book. When I look at a new page, I look at the pictures first. Next, I look at the words and I try to read them. The pictures help me to read the words that I don't already know.
"The baby dogs are called puppies. I can see the picture and then I can read the word that says, 'puppies.' It is a little bit tricky because the books are quite hard."

I Can Write All By Myself!
I am learning how to write a story. I draw a picture to help me plan my work. I use the day card to help me write the day correctly. I use my alphabet card to help me write the letters and words.
